The Princess of Wales's Yearly Yuletide Service of Carols Honours Charity Helpers
Her Royal Highness has organised her customary Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.
The large audience will hear a selection of carols, music and readings from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Centred Around Compassion and Love
The theme of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
Among the guests will be a couple named the Cordiners, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.
"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a letter ahead of the festive gathering.
A Steady Comeback
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".
Musical Talent and Access
Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.
Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the organisation, with awards contributing to instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in the evening's event.
"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.
A Sisterly Duo
Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Within the audience will be people from various age groups.
That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for community pantries.
Festive Decor and Performances
The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett contributing to their design.
Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."
The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
