Around 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered multiple other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report initial examinations show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.
City officials said they were trying "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A senior political figure said the incident rendered him without words and required to be addressed quickly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
